Arm Lift Little Silver, NJ Aging and sagging go together like Shecky Greene and the Catskills, like the Devils and Martin Brodeur, like the Shore and guys in black t-shirts and gold chains! As our skin loses some collagen and as the underlying support tissues slacken, sagging is inevitable.

Who would have thought it would affect the upper arms, though? This is especially true if you’ve gained and then lost a fair amount of weight. Now the underside of your upper arms is loose and, in many cases, even prone to flapping back and forth with arm movement.

And no matter how many triceps dips you do, that skin will never tighten back up. Bogus.

But you can come see Dr. Hetzler and he can perform an arm lift and you can get your younger upper arms back.

What is an arm lift?

An arm lift reduces excess skin and underlying fat between your underarm and your elbow. This reshapes the arm into a slimmer, smoother, younger contour. It can be a very satisfying procedure, particularly if you like to wear sleeveless fashions during our toasty New Jersey summers.

How does Dr. Hetzler perform an arm lift?

Depending on the degree of sagging, Dr. Hetzler makes an incision on the bottom or inside of your upper arm. This can stretch from the armpit all the way to the elbow, or it may be shorter if you have less pronounced sagging. If you have fat pockets that need to be removed, liposuction will be used. Dr. Hetzler then tightens the support tissues and muscles as needed, and he smoothes the skin over your slimmer contoured arm. Excess skin is then trimmed away and the incision is closed.

Will an arm lift leave a scar?

Any incision in the skin will leave a scar, and this is no different with the lengthy incision used in an arm lift. However, the incision is placed on the inside or the bottom of the arm, so it is not as noticeable as you could think. Plus, over time the scarring will fade.

Want to do something about your loose upper arms for 2019? Call Dr. Hetzler at (732) 219-0447 and schedule a consultation for an arm lift.

Arm Lift Little Silver, NJWhen you’re wearing a sleeveless blouse or a swimsuit, do you ever worry that a sudden gust of wind will cause some flapping? Not in an adjacent umbrella at the shore…but in your upper arms?! Of course, that’s an exaggeration, but if you have loose skin on the underside of your upper arms, you may be leery about moving your arms overly quickly to keep that skin from flapping about.

It sounds like an arm lift with Dr. Hetzler could be right for you.

What is an arm lift?

Lots of circumstances are out to get the skin on your upper arms. If you’ve lost a good deal of weight, you’re virtually guaranteed to have loose skin up there. Of course, the sagging and tissue loosening that comes with age knows the upper arms quite well. Even your genes can play a part — there is a hereditary component to developing loose skin in that area.

What you can be left with is loose skin that hangs on the underside of your arms when you raise your arms. And that’s no bueno.

An arm lift reduces excess skin and underlying fat that occurs between the underarm area down to the elbow. The surgery removes the hanging skin and tightens the muscles beneath to give your upper arms a slimmer, toned contour without the flapping!

What’s involved in an arm lift?

Dr. Hetzler can make the incision in an arm lift in a few different locations. The choice will depend on the amount and location of the excess skin to be removed, along with personal preference.

  • Inside of the arm— The incision can be made on the inside of the upper arm, stretching from the inside of the elbow up to the armpit.
  • Back of the arm— The incision can be made on the backside of the arm. You may think of this as the underside.
  • Minimal incision— If there isn’t too much-sagging skin to remove, an incision can be made just under the armpit. In these cases, liposuction is used to remove fat rather than excision to remove more skin.

With any method used, Dr. Hetzler will usually also include some liposuction to remove unwanted fat.

Recovery

With an arm lift, you’ll be instructed to keep your arms elevated for several days after surgery. You’ll also need to avoid any lifting or weight bearing with your arms for a few weeks. You’ll simply need to be smart even with a range of motion so that you don’t stress your incisions. You’ll have to scar, but over the course of the year that follows, the scars will refine and fade.

Interested in losing the flapping of your upper arms. Call Dr. Hetzler, 732-219-0447, and set up a consultation for an arm lift. The winter is a great time to do it!

arm liftWhile there will be many a Batman coming to your door on Halloween, you don’t want anything to do with “bat wings.” That is the flattering term for loose skin on the underside of your upper arms that is a result of fluctuations in weight, loosening skin and muscle, even just heredity. No matter how many triceps exercises you do, once your upper arms become flappy they won’t tighten back down to their former contour.

That could be the time for Dr. Hetzler to perform an arm lift. A arm lift reduces excess skin and underlying fat that occurs between the elbow and underarm area. An arm lift results in a more toned and proportionate appearance. Gone with the bat wings, in with the sleeveless blouses!

What is an arm lift?

An arm lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes the upper portion of the upper arm. Liposuction is usually used along with the procedure to remove pockets of fat. The goal of an arm lift is to:

  • Reduces excess sagging skin that droops downward when the arms are extended away from the body
  • Tighten and smooth the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm

The procedure

Dr. Hetzler begins an arm lift with an incision placed in the inside of the upper arm. The incision may extend from the underarm to the elbow, or be more limited in length. The incision length will be directly related to the amount of excess skin that needs to be removed.

Once the incision is made, Dr. Hetzler will remove any excess fat. Then he tightens and reshapes the underlying supportive tissues using internal sutures. Next excess skin is trimmed and the overlying skin is re-draped over the new contour of your arm.

Afterwards

After your arm lift your arms will be swollen and bruised, and there will be some pain, but it is controllable with medication. Dr. Hetzler will advise you to keep your arms elevated as much as possible for the first several days after surgery. You’ll need to avoid any heavy lifting or bearing any weight on your arms for several days to weeks. Vigorous exercise will have to wait a few weeks.

An arm lift can dramatically improve your arm contour and body image. Call Dr. Hetzler at 732-219-0447 to schedule a consultation.

With today’s modern fashions, bare arms are a typical part of the game. But if you have loose upper arms the last thing you probably want to do is put on a sleeveless blouse. Significant weight gain or weight loss, or simply the relentless march of time, can create this loose skin on the upper arms. These unsightly, inelastic flabby areas on the bottom of both upper arms are sometimes referred to as “bat wings.”

Dr. Hetzler can address this problem with a plastic surgery procedure called brachioplasty, commonly known as an arm lift. This procedure removes excess skin and fat in the upper arms.

arm liftThere are a couple myths about the upper arms. If a person is overweight, there is a perception that simply losing weight will firm up the upper arms. Actually, this can make the problem worse. The same is true of performing only liposuction on the upper arm area.

An arm lift, sometimes done in conjunction with liposuction, is the path recommended path by Dr. Hetzler.

How is an arm lift done?

In an arm lift, an incision is made either on the inside or on the back of the arm near the elbow, or occasionally in armpit for minimal arm lifts. The placement of the incision will depend on the amount and location of the excess skin present. Fat deposits in the area may be removed through excision or liposuction. Once the fat has been removed, the supportive tissues in the arm are tightened and contoured using internal sutures. The skin is then re-draped and smoothed to conform to the new tighter contour.

What results can I expect?

There will be bruising and swelling, but your new firmer upper arms will be noticeable immediately after the procedure. Dr. Hetzler usually wraps the patient’s arms to help support the new contour, as well as to aid healing. There will also be some scarring.

An arm lift can bring long-lasting results, especially when the patient maintains a stable weight and exercises regularly. If you’re interested in putting the bat wings in the Bat Cave, call Dr. Hetzler and schedule a consultation for an arm lift.
