Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning Little Silver NJ

What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning can manually exfoliate your skin, removing the outermost layer of dead skin cells. Also known as epidermal leveling or blading, the treatment can remove unwanted facial hair or treat acne scars.

Ideal Dermaplaning Candidates

  • Mild surface wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Blackheads
  • Enlarged pores
  • Unwanted Facial hair
  • Rough skin texture
  • Uneven skin tone

By leveling the skin surface, dermaplaning can reduce the appearance of common skin problems such as wrinkles, acne scars, and enlarged pores. However, if you suffer from severe acne, dermaplaning is not recommended, since it may aggravate or stimulate acne breakouts within the hair follicles.

How Does Dermaplaning Work?

By using a scalpel or special blade, a trained aesthetician will remove the superficial hair and top layer of epidermal skin.

Dermaplaning can be performed on small areas of skin or on the entire face. The treatment can be used alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift, scar removal or revision, or chemical peel.

Combining Dermaplaning with Other Procedures

Dermaplane New Jersey – Peter T. Hetzler M.D, FACS offers Dermaplaning that can be combined with other treatments, such as Chemical Peels!

What To Expect After Dermaplaning

Young girl doing face treatment in morningAfter dermaplaning, in rare cases, a crust may form over the treated area during the healing phase. This will flake off as a new layer of tight, pink skin forms underneath. You may feel an itchy sensation during this time, but prescription ointment can make you more comfortable and minimize crust or scab formation.

You’ll notice a smoother texture and fresh skin appearance. Facial hair returns softly and will not appear coarse or darker because of treatment. As an added benefit, your skincare products and treatments will penetrate the skin better after treatment.

How Many Dermaplaning Treatments Are Recommended For Best Results?

For an optimal outcome, several dermaplaning treatments may be recommended, scheduled 3 to 4 weeks apart.
