Hyaluronic Acid Little Silver, NJIn the aesthetic world, much like other business categories, certain items or phrases become a hot commodity. Right now hyaluronic acid has that role in the aesthetic universe. You see hyaluronic acid in lotions, serums, and everything else seemingly short of a box of Wheaties.

So, what is this hyaluronic acid stuff?

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is found in pretty much every animal, even us human animals. In humans hyaluronic acid acts as a network that transfers essential nutrients from the bloodstream to the skin cells. You’ll find high concentrations of hyaluronic acid in the soft connective tissues and in the fluid surrounding your eyes. It’s in our cartilage and acts as fluids for the joints. You may have heard of people with bad joints having hyaluronic acid injections to help ease the pain and return some extra cushioning.

What about the skin?

But the skin is where most people want their hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a gel-like water-holding molecule that is responsible for keeping our skin plump and hydrated. How does it do this? Hyaluronic acid can retain over 1,000 times its weight in water within the cells of the skin. No wonder everyone wants to say it is an ingredient in their moisturizers!

When hyaluronic acid gel is injected for aesthetic reasons, it acts like an inflated cushion supporting facial structures and tissues that may have lost volume or elasticity due to normal aging. For the skin, hyaluronic acid binds with nearby water molecules to firm and hydrate the skin. And we all want firm, hydrated, plump skin, as that is a tenet of young-looking skin.

But, as you can probably deduce, hyaluronic acid is only able to bind with water molecules when it is under the epidermis, the skin’s outer layer. That’s why topical use of hyaluronic acid in lotions and all is probably only marginally helpful, at best.

Natural fillers

Hyaluronic acid is the basis of all of the “naturally derived” fillers. Juvederm and Restylane are the marquee names of these types of fillers. When injected beneath a wrinkle, crease, or area of volume loss, the hyaluronic acid in these fillers simply binds with nearby water molecules, instantly returning volume and pushing the skin back up. This erases the line or fills in volume. These are some specific issues Dr. Hetzler addresses with these fillers:

  • Nasolabial lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Parentheses lines
  • Barcode lines
  • Acne scars
  • Cheek depressions
  • Redefining lip borders
  • Adding lip volume

Now you’ve passed Hyaluronic Acid 101. Since you’re an expert, is it time to see Dr. Hetzler and put some of this stuff to use returning volume to your face? Call us at (732) 219-0447 to make an appointment.

JUVÉDERM® Little Silver, NJSure wrinkles get all the attention. When a person sees a new wrinkle form outside her eyes, it’s time for panic. But the volume loss that accompanies aging is really far more visible. As our production of collagen, the protein that supports our skin, decreases with age, our skin sags across our body. Nowhere is this more evident than the face. Decreased collagen allows our cheeks to flatten and sink, our lips to thin and wrinkle, and the skin around our mouth to loosen and allow the development of wrinkles and creases.

Dermal fillers are mainly intended to counter volume loss. Dr. Hetzler offers the entire line of Juvéderm® dermal fillers to address this. The newest additions to that line is Juvéderm Vollure® XC. Juvéderm Vollure® XC was created to correct moderate to deep creases and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.

What is Juvéderm Vollure® XC?

Juvéderm Vollure® XC is the newest addition to the Juvéderm® family of dermal fillers. It was developed as an extension of the original Juvéderm product, Juvéderm® XC. This was one of the first hyaluronic acid fillers and has been, along with Restylane, the world’s most popular injectable after Botox.

Where is Juvéderm Vollure® XC used?

Vollure® is designed for the correction of moderate to deep creases and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds running from the nose down to the corners of the mouth, parentheses lines framing the mouth, and marionette lines dropping downward from the corners of the mouth.

How is Vollure® different from the other fillers in the Juvéderm® line?

Each Juvéderm® filler is intended for a different area of the face. Juvéderm Vollure® XC is specifically intended to treat moderate to deep lines and creases around the nose and mouth. These demand more volume than, say, lip lines. Juvéderm Vollure® XC uses Vycross crosslinking, which is also used in Volbella® and Voluma®. This technology minimizes any swelling when Vollure® is injected.

How long will my results last with Juvéderm Vollure® XC?

Juvéderm Vollure® XC is the longest lasting hyaluronic acid filler on the market, providing volume for 18 months. That is six months longer than any other hyaluronic acid filler.

Interested in showing your smile, parentheses, and marionette lines who’s the boss? Call Dr. Hetzler at (732) 219-0447 and ask about the newest Juvéderm filler, Juvéderm Vollure® XC.

Injectable Fillers Little Silver, NJ,Time has no master. And that is certainly true of what time does to your skin. As the years accumulate, so do the wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. Dr. Hetzler trusts Restylane as one way to put a temporary halt to the aging process on the face.

What is Restylane?

There are many dermal fillers on the market, but Restylane was the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved by the FDA for cosmetic use. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in the body and is responsible for plumping and firming the skin. When the Restylane gel is injected directly beneath the location of the crease or wrinkle, the gel integrates into the dermal tissue, attracting and binding with water molecules to add and maintain facial volume. This added hydration fills in the lines and wrinkles and produces smoother skin.

What are the benefits of Restylane?

Dr. Hetzler likes Restylane for its natural-looking results. Because hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body, reactions are very rare, and the body gradually absorbs it without any residue.

Where is Restylane effective?

Restylane can be used to address any static wrinkles. These are the type of wrinkles that show themselves at all times (unlike dynamic wrinkles such as crow’s feet that occur due to muscle contractions). It can be used to lessen the appearance of deep folds, creases, fine lines around the mouth, and laugh lines. It can also be effective on glabellar lines between the eyebrows. Restylane can increase the volume and shape of the lips.

What can I expect during my Restylane appointment?

The Restylane procedure usually takes less than half an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. Patients can return to work and their regular activities immediately.

Before the injection of Restylane, your skin may be numbed using a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout the treatment. Once your skin is cleansed and numbed, Restylane is injected using a very fine needle. Because of the size of the needle, there is only minimal discomfort.

It’s important after your session that you don’t rub the injection sites for the first 24 hours. This keeps the filler from migrating away from the target area.

Time to do something about those smile lines or your 11s between the brows? Call Dr. Hetzler at 732-219-0447 and ask about Restylane.

JUVÉDERM® XC Injectable Gel Little Silver, NJWhen someone says “volume” about aging, it’s easy to think of that uncle from Paramus with the hearing aids that he decides to turn off when he doesn’t want to deal with the conversation at a family get together.

But volume “loss” with age isn’t only in your ears — your face loses volume and support as you age, particularly after you cross the 50-year-old threshold. People always think of wrinkles with aging, but volume loss can be far more visible, as it affects larger areas such as the cheeks, and it can leave a person’s face looking somewhat sunken.

Volume loss doesn’t need to be a fact of life. Dr. Hetzler offers a variety of dermal fillers including four products in the Juvéderm® family: Juvéderm® XC, Juvéderm® Voluma XC, Juvéderm® Ultra XC, and Juvéderm® Volbella XC. Each is intended to address a different area of the face and replace decreased volume.

What is Juvéderm®?

If you follow the aesthetic industry at all, or if you’ve read other blogs in Dr. Hetzler’s feed, you’ve heard about hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body whose job is to hydrate and plump the skin. Unfortunately, it can’t overcome the decrease in collagen (the protein responsible for providing the skin’s support structure) production as we age. That’s why our skin is so saggy, and volume has decreased so much after we’ve had that 50th birthday.

All the Juvéderm® fillers are hyaluronic acid-based and use the hydrating and plumping characteristics to replace lost volume. When injected, Juvéderm® binds with water molecules in the area to firm the skin, add volume, and fill wrinkles.

What do the different Juvederm fillers address?

  • Juvéderm® XC

Parentheses are great for factoring in a high school algebra class, but they’re not welcome on your face. These are the lines that frame your mouth. Plus, there are smile lines, otherwise known as nasolabial folds, which run from your nose down to your mouth. You hear about all sorts of “anti-aging” serums and creams, but they only moisturize the skin’s surface. Juvéderm® XC adds volume beneath the skin to smooth these lines and folds.

  • Juvéderm® Voluma XC

You may hear Dr. Hetzler call it “age-related midface volume loss.” You call it sagging cheeks. Over time as you lose the collagen to support your skin and as your underlying muscles weaken, your cheeks flatten. Juvéderm® Voluma XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface to lift and contour the cheek area. Plump cheeks are a tenet of a younger look.

  • Juvéderm®Ultra XC

You may not think about your lips with facial aging, but our lips thin as we get older, losing the same support as our skin. Other women have never been happy with the fullness of their lips. Juvéderm® Ultra XC is designed to plump the lips.

  • Juvéderm®Volbella XC

This Juvederm option is brand new, coming on the market in summer 2016. Whereas Ultra XC adds fullness and plumps thin lips, Volbella XC is tailored to add subtle volume to the lips and smooth the appearance of vertical lip lines.

See, you can turn up the volume without a hearing aid! If you’ve had some volume loss, let’s talk about all of the options available with the Juvéderm® fillers we offer. Call us at 732-219-0447 and set up an appointment.
